Question-1
ReplyDeleteThe European exploration of the Americans affected the native people in many ways. While there were advantages of their coming, there were also many disadvantages as well. The Europeans brought with them many diseases that the native people's bodies weren't immune to. Therefore, many natives died. The diseases the European explorers brought with them weren't the only things that killed off the natives though. The Europeans also had higher technology than the native peoples did. In fact their technology was so far ahead, that the natives could not keep up with the explorers, and therefore, some gave themselves up as slaves. Because the native people were dying off so quickly, it made conquering the continents much easier for Europe. The explorers may have hurt the native people, but if it weren't for them, a lot of us wouldn't be here right now.

The exploration and colonization of Europeans in America caused great impact on the Native people. The Europeans could do basically what ever they wanted. They had gunpowder, while the Natives had just spears or bows and arrows. The Natives were not able to contest with what the Europeans had. It mentions on page three of the book: “It was catastrophic for the American natives because they were not able to match European technologies in battle.” The other reason Natives were impacted were because they were very defenseless to the diseases the Europeans brought. Therefore, the Natives were dying of disease and getting shot with gunpowder, while the Europeans were claiming the land.

From around the fifteenth to the eighteenth century, the most powerful nations of Europe were constantly competing with one another economically, militarily, and culturally. As a result, lands that were available for European domination, including lands in the Americas, provided means of becoming superior to other countries. In addition, the philosophy of mercantilism, the idea that a country can only advance at the expense of others, gave the Europeans a sense of justification in exploiting the lands and peoples they came into contact with. Great Britain, Spain, and France employed mercantilism in governing their colonies in the Americas. These and other countries sent out explorers to investigate uncharted lands so they would have greater access to untapped resources. Because of all these factors, exploring and controlling American lands became methods of gaining supremacy in Europe for nations of that continent.

When the Europeans came to America they found there was people already people living there. So, they forced the native peoples to leave the area. In other cases like Cortez and Pizarro they completely destroyed the people, and sometimes the peoples would fight back and would not give up the land.
ReplyDeleteThe Europeans had more technical warfare that most natives were afraid of. That let the Europeans get rid of most native peoples in their way.
Well first the English tried to create many colonies before Jamestown but they were unsuccessful. That created a lot of contention with the natives and the other Europeans. Now the Spanish had a navy called the Spanish Armada. This navy was the most powerful navy in the world at that time. The English attacked and destroyed that navy creating the Spanish to fear the English. So, the English were able to take more land that way. The english also allied with the Natives and learned how to live in the areas, giving them an advantage.

Okay, so I'm not sure if I should tell you what question I'm going to write about, but I'll just tell you anyway. I picked the first question, here are my answers.
ReplyDeleteI think European explorers affected the Native Americans in many ways, such as: The explorers probably scared them more than they've ever feared for their lives before. The fact that they were taking the natives back with them affected the ones who were taken, because a) they've probably never seen a boat before and didn't trust it with their lives. and b) The fact that they were taken away from their homes and families is terrible, and scared them a lot because they didn't know if they'd ever see their families again. They also had no idea who these people were and where they were going.
The explorers also affected the Native Americans by taking away their villages and burning their places and killing many of the Natives. The Natives did nothing to deserve this and the things that happened to them most likely made their lives miserable. Although killing the Natives wasn't a great idea, without these explorers we may not have had a South America or a North America.

Sorry Mr. Pollock, but I forgot to mention one more thing.
ReplyDeleteAnother thing that greatly affected the Natives is the European Diseases the the explorers brought with them. The Native American's immune system had never encountered these diseases before, mainly smallpox, and so many of them got sick and died.

The European Exploration and colonization affected the Natives of The New World harshly. First, Natives did not have to worry about any diseases; they did not have any in their society. Their bodies, since they have never experienced diseases, weren’t fully armed against the European diseases that the conquistadores brought to them in European Explorations. Many Native peoples were beginning to die of the conquistadores sicknesses.
ReplyDeleteSecondly, conquistadores were very unkind and cruel to Natives. Conquistadores as well didn’t treat Natives like they were equal to the Spaniards. They destroyed their empires, Inca and Aztec. They forced Natives to be baptized into the Catholic Church saying, you either are part of our church or your life ends right now. Conquistadores as well took land from the Natives; they were here first after all…
Lastly, Native Peoples were beginning to starve, other than be a forced religion and treated cruelly. Explorers were eating their food and taking their homeland. They had to trade with explorers and Spaniards or die. They way of living would never be the same ever again.

Period 2
The European exploration and colonization of America was virtually a death penalty to the Native Americans. Deadly sicknesses and diseases were introduced to the natives, wiping them out by the millions. It was worse than the Black Plague that had taken the lives of so many Europeans a few years back. The Native Americans had never seen influenza, measles, typhus, and above all small pox. In the first couple of years millions died. These illnesses dropped the population of the Mayans by about ninety five percent. War was also devastating to the Native Americans. Hardly any of the Native Americans got along with the Europeans. When the Europeans came they wanted to make settlements and land claims. The Native Americans would then get mad at them because they had always been free they didn’t like being told where they could live. European weaponry was the biggest issue in the wars. The Native Americans knew war as they had dealt with it all of their lives. They used spears and bows and arrows. But the Europeans brought guns and swords with them. The Natives had never seen guns before and they did not have the ability to fight back. They suffered the greater loss by far, being driven like animals. It was like a pack of lions hunting its prey. There would be a lot more Native Americans if the Europeans had never come.

I don't think that there was much that was beneficial for the Native Americans when European Explorers came to the Americas. Cortes was an Explorer who was sailing for Spain. He is most known for conquering the Aztec Empire. He wanted to over power the nation and find gold to become rich. Pizzaro was ane Explorer also sailing for Spain. He conquered the Inca Empire just because he wanted their land, even though they had it first. Along with killing Native People like Cortes and Pizzaro did, they brought diseases with them that the native Americans were not used to. The sicknesses brought over from Europe killed a lot of Native People.
ReplyDeleteWell when the Explorers came they brought disease that wiped out most of the Native Americans. That made it easier for the Europeans to win their land. By the late 1600s the Europeans had control of most of the New World.I think that, it's terrible for the Indians to lose their land and their lives to the illnesses that they didn't know about.

European explorers went to America in search of gold and land, and probably popularity. They didn’t necessarily care about the natives already living there, so they just took over. So, you can say that things turned for the worst for them, and you would probably be right. They lost their land; some got turned into slaves, many were killed, and explorers brought unknown diseases, like small pox for example, killing even more. Explorer expeditions to America didn’t work out for the Natives very well. The effect turned on them was unjust, and impertinent. I wouldn’t want someone barging into my land and taking it away from me.
ReplyDeleteWhat happened in Europe from 500-1500 A.D? Europe’s population was significantly growing. All of the Country’s Government became very powerful. Conditions such as: weakness, diseases and Europe dividing was a problem for most of the people! Europe wanted to find a safe, but easy route to Asia. Men such as Marco Polo and Christopher Columbus helped Europe to do so. Christopher Columbus sailed in 1492 to find a route going from the West to Asia. Ten weeks after he started sailing he saw land. He thought it was Asia. He captured some Native evidence to show the King and Queen of Spain. Christopher later named the people Native Indies, because he thought that he had sailed to the Eastern Indies. In 1498 Columbus sailed out again this time with ninety men, and three ships. He reached the main land this time and said “This is not Asia this is new land that I have discovered.” This new land had Gold, land, resources and possibility Freedom. This new land was the American Continent. This is what promoted the exploration and settlement of America!

Answer to Question 1
ReplyDeleteThe question asks, “What ways did European exploration and colonization affect Native America?” The answer is on page 12 and 15. One of the first exchanges between the people were diseases. The Europeans brought their diseases that are common in their land to the New World, where the Native People weren’t use to, and millions of people died from the diseases. Some of the diseases were influenza, measles, typhus, and above all smallpox.

1- In what ways did European exploration and colonization affect Native Americans?
ReplyDeleteIt affected Native Americans it many ways. When the Spanish arrived, they tried to convert the natives into Christianity. Spain eagerly sent explorers mapping out the North West. The English did not have any second thoughts when they dumped their settlers in colonies, claiming all surrounding land. When all countries came over, they all brought diseases. The natives had their own and did not have immunity to Europeans’. In conclusion, they were affected in terms of religion, disease, land and culture.

Why did they Europeans set out discover America before the end of the fifteenth century? Many historians have asked this question and have come up with two reasons why Europeans set out for the New World when they did. First is the fact that their population had grown so much. The Black Death killed most of the population, but it rebounded later on and with this growth came a renewal of commerce. People wanted more places to trade from so they could satisfy the supply and demand of the people. America provided new materials and resources for the Europeans. Second was the need for new governments that would be stronger and more united than the ones in the past. In conclusion, the to reasons that the Europeans set out to discover the New World when they did is; one is the size of the population, and second was the renewal of commerce.

1- The European exploration and colonization effected the Native Americans a lot. Some European Explorers conquered whole Native American Empires with their technology. The Europeans also brought new diseases to the Natives when they came to America. Not everything the Europeans did affected the Natives in a bad way, the explorers brought over new things like food and weapons to trade with the Native Americans. When the Native Americans showed the explorers gold, the Europeans started shipping a lot back to Europe. Gold didn't have as much worth to the Natives as to the Europeans. I can imagine that from the Native Americans' point of view it looked like the Europeans were just coming and kicking the Natives out of America, and conquering their empires.
ReplyDelete- Austin Huntsman
The European explorers brought nothing but misfortune to the Native Peoples. They brought diseases that they were unfamiliar with and so they were not immune to them. The Europeans also forced them to believe what they believed and if the Natives refused, they were killed. They took their land and people and basically made their lives miserable. Because of the Europeans, the Native Peoples were wiped out.

A few of the many ways the European colonization affected the Native Americans are health and location. The European settlers brought illness and diseases that were unknown by the Native Americans that killed many of them. Another way the Native Americans were affected was that they were displaced by the settlers, land was occupied, homes and buildings were built, and land was used to grow crops. In conclusion these are a few ways how the Native American’s life style was changed by the European settlers.

ReplyDeleteThe European explorers effected the Native Americans in a lot of ways. The Native American's bow and arrows were no match for the European's guns. When they met in war, the Europeans wiped them out with their better technology. The picture on page two shows the Europeans on their little boat and the Natives on the cliff with their bow and arrows. European civilization was sometimes friendly, but mostly it was catastrophic for the American natives because of the Europeans technology, and because they were highly vulnerable to European diseases. The European explorers brought a plague with them to the Americas, and it was wiping out the natives, witch made their conquest even easier. By the late sixteenth century, the Europeans established a claim to all the lands in America and had taken control over much of it.
When the European settlers came, they took over the Natives' land. They started to build colonies and plant crops. They also came in with new technologies. So if the Natives wanted to fight back for their land, they would have no chance. The Europeans brought with them many diseases, too. So when they came to the Natives' land, the diseases infected the Natives. It's too bad for the Natives, though, because their bodies aren't immune to the diseases.

Most of the people who lived in the new world had been getting sick and eventually died, this made more open land for the eropeans. the immune systems in these people were not used to the threatening deseases that had been brought to america.

ReplyDeleteWhat I know about of what ways did European exploration and colonization affect Native Americans (after reading my text history book) is that European exploration and colonization made the natives as slaves. It’s like the way they did to the Africans. The Native Americans were taken to Europe so they can be used as slaves. But there is a problem. The Native Americans got affected of European diseases when the Spaniards brought them to Europe. The European diseases were the influenza, measles, typhus, and the smallpox. It killed millions of natives.
I wanted to know more about the ways did European exploration and colonization affect Native Americans. So I ask my dad about it (since he knows parts of history), and this is what he told me. It started when the Spaniards came to the Aztecs. The Aztecs gave offerings to the Spaniards, Such as gold, silver, and precious stones. They gave these offerings to the Spaniards because the Aztecs thought they were gods. But, for this big mistake, the Spaniards got greedy and killed the Indians for it. After the Spaniards were done with the Indians, they brought the offerings (that the Aztecs gave) to Spain and show what they got. And that got more explorers to go to the new world to look for more gold.
So the ways did the European exploration and colonization affect Native Americans is made them slaves, natives died of European disease when they got to Europe, Spaniards killed Indians for gold, and changed the natives’ lives.

The arrival of the English had a big impact on the Natives. The Natives sometimes are very territorial people. This results in a lot of conflict against the two. The English probably ended up killing the Natives because of their more advance weaponry. Not only that, but the diseases too. The Natives were only immune to North American sicknesses so when the English came to the New World they probably ended up killing of a lot of Natives just by disease.

There are a lot of things that the Explorers did that affected the Native Americans. One of the main things was they brought diseases. And the Natives weren’t used to those diseases and so a lot died from them. The Native Americans also didn’t have any medicine for them either because they’ve never seen those diseases. The Explorers also took a lot of the Natives land even though the Natives were there first. The Explorers also helped the Natives by giving them guns and other things like that.

The Europeans explorers and colonizations took the Native Americans land. They also killed many Native Americans. But yet the Natives keeped being nice to the Europeans and the colonizations. They did this because they wanted the Europeans and colonizations weapons. The Natives plan was to get the weapons and destroy the Europeans and the colonizations.

One of the many ways Europeans affected the natives was they traded their things. Europeans brought horses which became valuable to the natives. Some Europeans called the natives savages and were cruel to them. The natives were pushed back from their homes against their will. Ashley Layton

When they arrived the Europeans had gunpowder and guns, but the Native Americans only had spears and bow and arrows, the Natives kept being nice to the Europeans, but it was only to have their weapons and conquer other tribes.
